About DEER
Our Visions and Missions
DEER Theatre is a registered professional non-profit theatre company in Hong Kong. DEER Theatre focuses on producing live theatre for the enrichment of culture and betterment of society. We are not only developing these ideas in Hong Kong, but we are also expanding into Mainland China.
DEER Theatre produces around ten productions every year. In 2011, our productions included “Little Penguin and the Big World” for children aged 4 to 12, “100 Movies in 1 Hour” for secondary students and “Frozen” for adult audiences. By carefully selecting and creating material for different age groups we hope to cater for a wide audience and enable a large number of people to benefit from a DEER theatre experience. From experimental theatre to commercial musical theatre we help to support the arts through providing performance opportunities and giving voice to relevant contemporary works. We stage an annual production, which raises money for different local charities. In July 2011, we are proud to present "Annie, Jr." benefitting the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children.
- Improving communication and cooperation among people from different cultures and nationalities.
- Encouraging everyone, especially young people, to care for people who are less fortunate.
- Promoting humanitarianism, especially in young people.
- Increasing the public’s level of appreciation of the arts and culture through theatre.
- Increasing the public’s interest in English communication and speaking proficiency, as English is fast becoming the Lingua Franca and a way of contributing to the global stage.
